One of the greatest things about being in radio is the perks, and I’d like to thank Jessica McPhee (Manager of Corporate Communications) of the Edmonton Oilers for the ultimate Oil Country experience. I got to watch the Oilers from the catwalk of Rexall Place. It’s a view usually reserved for the media, statisticians, Oilers players, their staff, and Rod Phillips. In honour of the 7 goals scored between the Oilers and Thrashers (I can’t believe Marty Reasoner scored the winner), here’s 7 things I noticed from the rafters of Rexall.
1) The view is unbelievable. You see plays develop, the numbers of all the players, and things that you wouldn’t be able to see from any other seat in the building
2) The crowd is a lot louder from the catwalk (I never knew sound rose like hot air).
3) Free popcorn, pop, and ice cream.
4) Excuse the pun but it’s a well-oiled machine behind the scenes (there’s approx. 150 employees working in the Oilers office).
5) I just saw Paul Lorieau, J.J. Hebert, and Crystal Leriger
6) I just saw Zack Stortini and Theo Peckham
7) I was sitting right above the ‘Y’ from You’re in Oil Country (I wish every fan can appreciate this view one day).
The Rickster (wondering how great it was to see George, Julianna, Eriq, and Noah on ER again).
