It’s hard to believe, but today marks the 24th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death.

Cobain died on April 5th, 1994, but his body wasn’t discovered until an electrician arrived at his Seattle home three days later.

The Seattle Police Department reported that Cobain died of a gunshot wound to the head. A shotgun and suicide note were found nearby. Prior to his death, Cobain had checked himself into a drug rehabilitation facility after his heroin addiction resurfaced. He is remembered by his wife Courtney Love and their daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

Following his death, many fans accused Love of murdering her husband, but that remained a conspiracy. In 2015, Cobain’s demos were discovered and released posthumously as Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings.

At the time of his death, Nirvana was the biggest rock band in the world, paving the way for other grunge bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and more. To date, they have sold over 75 million records worldwide. Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 during their first year of eligibility.

Cobain’s daughter Frances shared this message on what would have been his 50th birthday in 2017.

February 20th 2017. Happy Birthday.
