Muse frontman and all around cool guy Matt Bellamy turns 39 today! Celebrate with these ma-ma-ma-ma-mad facts!

 

1. He’s a second generation rocker. Matt’s dad was the rhythm guitarist in the 1960’s band The Tornados. They were the first British band EVER to have a #1 single in the US. That song was “Telstar”, listen below:

 

 

2. He’s been rocking almost his entire life. He first began playing piano at 6, and picked up his first guitar at 11. He was 12 when he first performed in a piano recital in front of his school.

3. He was named “Guitarist of the Decade”. In the January 2010 edition of Total Guitar, Bellamy was named “Guitarist of the Decade” and viewed as the “Hendrix of his generation”. Here’s why:

 

 

4. Dude’s got strong political views. Bellamy has written dozens of songs surrounding his views. Both “Assassin” and “Uprising” are notably politically-charged.

5. Fan of the new and old. Being surrounded by music his entire life, he has excellent taste in some sweet jams – including Twenty One Pilots. Last year, he took his son to the show and hung out, like rockstars do.
