Tonight, Stephen Colbert hosts the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Emmys, also known as the Primetime Emmy Awards, are held each year to recognize members of the TV industry. The first Emmy Awards ceremony took place in 1949, making 2017 the 69th year the awards have been held.

This year was a big year for streaming services – Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu have picked up a collective 125 nominations, with shows like The Handmaid’s TaleStranger Things, and Transparent up for awards.


HBO leads the trail with 111 nominations (thanks to Westworld’s 22) while Netflix is at a close second with 91 nominations.

NBC nabbed the third spot with 64 nominationsSNL is also up for 22 awards on its own.

Game of Thrones is noticeably absent – but that’s only because the show didn’t air during the time of eligibility. The eligibility period for the awards is between June 1 and May 30 each year. The late premiere of GoT Season 7 means that it missed the May 30 cut-off date.
