Edmonton staff are recommending that outdoor pools continue to stay free to public in summer 2018. Attendance last year more than doubled previous years after the free program was introduced on July 1st as part of Canada’s 150 celebration.

According to the Edmonton Journal, the four outdoor pools in the city saw a huge increase in visitors. 153, 000 people visited the pools between July 1 and September 9, compared to 88, 0225 total visits in 2016.

Mayor Don Iveson said, “You’ve got to be careful with managing demand for things, but certainly the spirit and intent of making it available to families … was phenomenal”. He and city council are working towards making a decision for the upcoming season.
