SONiC 102.9 is celebrating International Women’s Day with some of your favourite female artists! Be listening as Molly and Jasmin of Mother Mother, Aimee Interrupter of the Interrupters and more take over the station in their very own Pop Up Playlists. Plus, listen all day to win tickets to see Metric with July Talk on April 21 at the Edmonton Convention Centre!

Founded in 2012, SkirtsAfire Festival is Edmonton’s only theatre and multidisciplinary arts festival featuring women. In conjunction with International Women’s Day, their 10 day festival runs each March at various venues across the city. SkirtsAfire Festival values diversity in the women they represent and welcomes women artists of all diverse backgrounds including trans women, self-identifying women, the LGBTQ2 community, all ethnicities and all abilities.

The festival goes down this weekend and features all forms of art including theatre, dance, music, comedy, bands and even yoga and belly dancing workshops. The festival’s artistic director Annette Loiselle spoke with Brooklyn about the festival entering its biggest year to date!
