Meet Dr. Jenni Sidey-Gibbons. She’s an incredibly intelligent, extremely down to earth (no pun intended) Albertan astronaut that just graduated from a NASA training program!

Jenni grew up in Calgary and said her love for science began at a young age. This soon grew into a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, then a PhD in Combustion, and later Jenni applied to work with the Canadian Space Agency and she was accepted to join their ranks.

Dr. Sidey-Gibbons recently graduated from NASA’s gruelling two-year training program, officially becoming Canada’s 14th astronaut and the third Canadian female astronaut, after Roberta Bondar and Julie Payette.  She also graduated the program this year alongside fellow Albertan Joshua Kutryk, from Fort Saskatchewan.

We sat down with Jenni to have a fascinating chat about what it takes to get to space.  Jenni also revealed which hockey team she cheers for (it might be a shocker to Alberta hockey fans!) – and Jenni broke down some of the unique experiences astronauts can face in space.
