Yesterday Smashing Pumpkins released two brand new tracks, “Cyr” and “The Colour of Love”. The songs were recorded where the band is from, in Chicago, and produced by Billy Corgan himself.

In a recent press release, Billy Corgan said:

“‘Cyr’ is dystopic folly, one soul against the world sort of stuff, set against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and sped up time. To me it stands as both hopeful and dismissive of what is and isn’t possible with faith.”

The music video was directed by Linda Strawberry who had this to say in the same press release:

“This is a goth fever dream of pent up emotion—an artistic visual release attempting to create a momentary escape from the emotional black cloud hanging over all of us this year. A dark seduction filmed in quarantine at a social distance.”

The song is a slightly different style for the band, stepping back a little from their usual sound to involve some more synth.

You can hear the second song they released called “Colour of Love” below.

With the release of these two new tracks the band also announced that they’ve signed to the label Sumerian Records. Smashing Pumpkins recently confirmed they have a new album on the way, but no news yet on a name or a specific release date. The label has only said “album details revealed soon”.

They’ve also redone their website to feature five doomsday style countdown clocks. The first countdown was up August 17th, revealing a button that says “explore the ritual”. This leads to a puzzle and a code to unscramble. The following countdown clocks are 21 days apart from each other, with the last being up in November. You can check out the website and countdown clocks here.
