For years, the Labour Day Long Weekend meant SONiC BOOM in Edmonton. We all miss coming together to sing along with our favourite bands, so let’s reminisce about the ‘good old days’ of live music together!

SONiC BOOM 2011

2011 was a first and only for SONiC BOOM – it was forced to move venues! Like every year prior, it was set to take place on the Northlands grounds, but Mother Nature had other plans… Due to some rain and heavy winds, the festival moved indoors to the Edmonton Expo Centre.

Jane’s Addiction headlined the bill for what was their second ever show in Alberta. Metric, Social Distortion, CAKE and more performed.

Newlyweds Garrett Sorensen and Deb Sorensen travelled to the festival all the way from Winnipeg!

But like most festivals, not all of the acts showed. Cee Lo Green cancelled his set, but the show still went on!

The Joy Formidable played their first show in Edmonton ever.

SONiC BOOM 2012

2012 may have been one of the most memorable years at SONiC BOOM. It was the year Linkin Park played their only show in Edmonton EVER. They headlined while Silversun Pickups, Fun., Young the Giants and more performed.

Everyone was ready for a day of fun in the sun! And the beer garden.

Even though Incubus ended up cancelling, Fun. and the rest of the line up still put on a hell of a show.

Fun. even signed a listener’s pants!

Young the Giant brought a glossy guitar and killer setlist.

SONiC weekend host Chantal Dunn met Silversun Pickups when she was just 12 years old!

Silversun Pickups played as the sun set… magical.

SONiC BOOM 2012 was Linkin Park’s only Edmonton show EVER… so its a bummer that this picture wasn’t in focus.

Some listeners knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

SONiC listener Jade got a wicked shot of Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda as they closed out the show.
