The Afghanistan outfit The Miraculous Love Kids/Girl With a Guitar have released a new cover with the help of Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello and Foo Fighter’s Rami Jaffee. The musicians covered the Eurythmics‘ “Sweet Dreams”. The Go-Go’s bassist Kathy Valentine, The Bangles guitarist Vicki Peterson and The Runaways vocalist Cherie Currie were also involved.

Lanny Cordola, the founder of Miraculous Love Kids, explained the song choice to Rolling Stone:

“We wanted to do something moody — a kind of gothic hymn — and we gravitated toward the dark yet hopeful spirit of this song. The lines in the song — ‘Some of them want to use you, some of them want to get used by you, some of them want to abuse you, some of them want to be abused’ — really resonate, reflecting these troubled times. But then a glimmer of optimism — ‘Hold your head up…keep your head up’ — gently flows through the voices of these girls who have experienced the worst that humanity has to offer.”

The music video shows the contributing artists from home, socially distanced. You can watch the cover below.

The Miraculous Love Kids/Girl With a Guitar tries to provide a space to help give a voice to kids living in poverty-stricken areas and war zones. MLK was founded by Lanny Cordola, an American musician, after he met Mursal, an Afgan girl who had lost both her sisters due to a suicide bomb attack.
