Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Watch The Strokes on this Halloween edition of SNL

This year we get a Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live – on Halloween!!

October 31st John Mulaney is returning to host SNL for the fourth time and The Strokes will be this week’s musical guest, also for the fourth time. It’s been almost ten years since the band starred on SNL, their last time being back in May of 2011.

So if you’re spending the spooky holiday eating a ton of candy inside, you can enjoy the performance on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET (9:30 p.m. Edmonton time).

2. Go to an ALT After Dark Night Market

This Friday, October 30th, you can enjoy an ALT After Dark Night Market from 7 p.m. – 11p.m.

There will be 25 local vendors and artists there for a spooky time, and there’ll even be tarot card readers! All at the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre, 8426 Gateway Blvd. Feel free to show up in costume, and you’ll be entered in for a door prize.

Entry is free and open for all ages.

3. Let your phone guide you through an eight-part play Here There Be Night, in Old Strathcona

Starting at the Strathcona Community League (10139-87 Avenue), this immersive experience guides you with your cell phone and audio narration to see solo performers in a variety of outdoor locations in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona district.

The play is rated PG 13: Parental Guidance — some mature content. You’ll need comfortable outdoor attire, earbuds, your phone and a mask.
