Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. Enjoy a Date Night Under The Stars at the UofA Botanic Garden

It’s the final weekend for Date Night Under The Stars! You can enjoy live music, a firepit, food, drinks, the paths of the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, and stargazing at the Calla Pond. There are also add-on activities like Guided Moonlight Nature Walks, Northern Light Tapas, Indigenous Dark Skies Storytelling, SoundVibes Yoga, Art Workshops, and Light Painting Photography.

The event runs from Thursday-Sunday, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m, and the Date Nights this weekend are a special celebration of UA Pride Week. 10% of all admission proceeds will go to support Camp Fyrefly!

2. Watch SONiC artists perform at the 63rd Grammy Awards

The 63rd Grammy Awards are airing this Sunday, March 14 and will be hosted by Trevor Noah. Some of the musical performers include Black Pumas, Billie Eilish, HAIM, Brittany Howard, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Post Malone, and more.

“Artists will be coming together, while still safely apart, to play music for each other as a community and celebrate the music that unites us all.”

This year the Grammy’s will also pay tribute to independent venues, which have been greatly impacted by the pandemic.

“From bartenders to box office managers, those who work day-to-day at the Troubadour (Los Angeles), The Hotel Café (Los Angeles), the Apollo Theater (New York City), and The Station Inn (Nashville) will present various categories throughout the night.”

You can watch the 63rd Grammy Awards on Citytv.

3. Get on the guest list for the Virtual SONiC Session with grandson

This is the last weekend to enter to win your spot at the grandson Virtual SONiC Session. You’ll get to meet him in an exclusive Zoom chat, participate in a Q&A and watch an acoustic performance.
