Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1.Watch Weezer’s livestream with an orchestra

On Friday, April 16th, for the first time ever, Weezer will perform their latest album OK Human in it’s entirety. They’ll be teaming up with the LA Philharmonic and Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, and performing from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Not only will they be performing the songs from OK Human, which was recorded with an orchestra, but they’ll also perform their older jams like “Buddy Holly”.

VIP tickets are also available for the livestream, which will include a Q&A with the band following their performance. The show will be at 7 p.m. Edmonton time.

2. Hear new albums from The Offspring and Portugal. The Man

Back in February The Offspring returned with their first new song in 9 years, and with that they announced a brand new album. The album, as well as it’s title track, is called Let The Bad Times Roll and will be released on April 16th.

For more details on the album and to hear the new track, click here.

On that day we will also get a new live album from Portugal. The Man. It’s their Oregon City Sessions, which has remained unreleased since 2008. With the announcement of this live album, they’ve shared a new version of one of their songs, “The Devil.”

You can listen to the Oregon City Sessions by clicking here this weekend.

The album will be available to purchase on vinyl and CD, on June 11th.
