Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1. See 3 SONiC artists perform at the 2021 NFL Draft

Even if you’re not into football, you’re going to want to check out the NFL Draft this weekend, because there are some great performances scheduled. On April 29th Kings of Leon are kicking off the draft, followed by Black Pumas on April 30th, then finally, Machine Gun Kelly will close out the weekend.

The 2021 NFL Draft will be held in Cleveland for the first time in a while, since they proceeded virtually last year. The performances will happen on a stage near the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and FirstEnergy Stadium.

2. Watch Dave Grohl’s documentary, What Drives Us

On April 30th, be prepared for the release of a brand new documentary, full of SONiC artists. What Drives Us is a film directed by Dave Grohl, all about what’s it’s like to tour in a van. He chats with tons of iconic acts like The Beatles, No Doubt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steven Tyler and more.

What Drives Us is out Friday, April 30th on Amazon Prime.

3. Visit the Royal Bison Art and Craft Fair online

This year, the Royal Bison Art and Craft Fair is going digital! Usually you’d find them at the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre, but this weekend they’re moving their Spring Sale online. The event organizers have put together a wonderful website showcasing 80 local vendors.

The Spring Sale will be open on the website from Friday April 30th, to Sunday May 2nd.

Vue Weekly has named the Royal Bison Art and Craft Fair as the best Edmonton craft fair since 2012!
