Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

This Alternative Long Weekend is presented to you by our friends at AGD beer, because all good days start with AGD beer and long weekends.*

Here are 3 things to check out:

1. Hear Twenty One Pilots’ new album and watch their Livestream Experience

This Friday, May 21st, Twenty One Pilots’ new album Scaled and Icy is coming out and they’re celebrating the release with their first-ever global streaming event. “Twenty One Pilots – Livestream Experience” will feature performances from their entire catalog, including the debut of the new album. So far from Scaled and Icy the duo have released their singles “Shy Away” and “Choker“.

The duo will also be performing their new single “Shy Away” on the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday.

2. Experience Root 107 before it’s gone

It’s the last weekend for Root 107, a pop-up park presented by The Downtown Business Association with mural art, and some great takeout from local restaurants and food trucks!

“The pop-up park, located at the future site of the Warehouse Campus Neighbourhood Central Park (107 Street and 101 Avenue), provides Edmontonians a safe and inclusive outdoor public space to enjoy. The park features murals by local artists, unique seating areas made from recycled materials, potted trees and shrubs, patio lighting, and scheduled food trucks.”

Curbside and Drift food trucks will be there this week, along with many neighbouring downtown restaurants (food truck hours dependent on the weather). To see the full list, click here.
