Hey, it’s Chantal. Sometimes it’s hard to keep track or be in the know about all the cool things going on in the city or online! Social media can get flooded, life can get chaotic, you know how it is. That’s what this is here for! Alternative Weekends is a nifty little series with the top 3 things happening in Edmonton or on SONiC, over the weekend. Who’s releasing a new album? Is there a SONiC artist live streaming? What can you do in Edmonton this weekend? Those questions will be answered here.

Here are 3 things to check out this weekend:

1.Spend your weekend rockin’ out to new albums from Modest Mouse and Mother Mother

Modest Mouse has been on a hiatus for six years, but now they’ve returned with The Golden Casket. The album will be out this Friday, June 25th, and have 12 songs including their single “We Are Between”.

That’s not the only album coming out this Friday!

Mother Mother is releasing their eighth studio album, Inside. On the same day, tickets are also going on sale for their live show at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on May 2nd, 2022!

Inside will feature 14 songs including their single “I Got Love”. The Canadian rockers will also be hosting a listening party on Saturday, to celebrate the new album and give you some more info on it.

2. Go to the circus (virtually) with the Alberta Circus Arts Festival

From June 25th to 27th, Firefly Theatre and Circus is presenting the Alberta Circus Arts Festival. The festival is online but you can still enjoy all kinds of performances, workshops, panels, and more!

“Alberta’s award-winning aerial performance company has been creating original works that combine circus and theatre since 2001.”

3. Watch a film from The Interrupters

The Interrupters present This Is My Family! If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about this ska band, here’s your opportunity. This Is My Family is a film featuring “the full live performance from Summer Sonic festival in Tokyo, behind the scenes footage, exclusive interviews, and a glimpse into each of the band members’ childhoods.”

The movie premieres on June 24th, at 7 p.m.

Tickets start at $10 each, and you can find them here.
