Each Tuesday and Sunday, Taylor rounds up this week’s best new music with the New Music Discovery Show. Here’s one of our favourites.

Wet Leg – “Chaise Longue”

English two-piece band Wet Leg are making a splash with their debut single “Chaise Longue”. Pronounced “shays long”, the song first went viral in 2021. It will be included on the band’s debut album sometime in 2022.

The song included the lyric “Is your muffin buttered?/Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?”, which is a direct quote from 2004’s Mean Girls.

Although it wasn’t released until 2021, vocalist Rhian Teasdale wrote the song in 2019 while sitting in an actual chaise lounge owned by guitarist Hester Chambers’ grandfather. The music video was directed by Teasdale.

In an Instagram post, the band promised that their album would be released on April 8 and that it may or may not include a 47-minute version of “Chaise Longue”.
