Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman has announced a leave of absence from the band, citing “rapidly deteriorat[ing]” mental health.

“Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years.” Trohman wrote in a statement. “So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.”

He continued “In the meantime, I must recover which means putting myself and my mental health first. Thank you to everyone, including my bandmates and family, for understanding and respecting this difficult, but necessary, decision. Smell you sooner than later.”

The announcement came shortly after Fall Out Boy announced their upcoming album, So Much (for) Stardust.

In 2021, Trohman started the podcast I Hate Myself, where he spoke candidly about his mental health.

So Much (for) Stardust will be released on March 24. Pre-save it here.
