On Wednesday, February 1, the nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2023 were announced.

The White Stripes, Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, and Soundgarden are nominated alongside George Michael, Missy Elliot, Sheryl Crow, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson, the Spinners, Warren Zevon, and A Tribe Called Quest.

The bands that receive the most fan votes will be announced in May, followed by an induction ceremony in the fall.

“This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

In order to be eligible this year, each nominee’s first single or album would have had to be released in 1998 or earlier. The White Stripes, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliot, Joy Division/New Order, George Michael, Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson, and Warren Zevon are on the ballot for the first time. Both The White Stripes and Missy Elliot were nominated in their first year of eligibility.

This is the fifth nomination for Rage Against The Machine, the fourth for Kate Bush and the Spinners, and the second for A Tribe Called Quest and Iron Maiden.
