The recent solar eclipse saw a massive increase in steams of Soundgarden’s 1994 track “Black Hole Sun”, propelling it to #1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Chart.

The song’s title and lyrics complimented the phenomenon, leading to the song gaining 4.2 million streams (up 34%) and 2.5 million in radio airplay audience (up 19%). The event led to the sale of 1,000 downloads (up 166%) in the US during April 5-11.

According to Billboard, “Black Hole Sun” is the first Soundgarden song to top the Hard Rock Chart, although it was only created in 2020. The song also impacted the Hot Rock Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts.
