Hozier is reacting to his song “Too Sweet” topping the US Billboard Singles chart, making him the first Irish musician to top the chart since Sinéad O’Connor.

When the song peaked the chart, it made him only the fourth Irish act to do so.

O’Connor spent four weeks at the top in 1990 for her track, “Nothing Compares 2 U”. The only other Irish acts to accomplish the feat were U2 with “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “With Or Without You” and Gilbert O’Sullivan with “Alone Again (Naturally)”.

In a video shared by Hozier, he said, “I’ve been both thrilled and taken massively by surprise by such a staggering reaction. It means the world that you’re enjoying this song so much. Thank you all so much.”
