Foo Fighters pulled a prank on the crowd at Welcome To Rockville with the help of Wolfgang Van Halen.

As part of their set, Foo Fighters played a montage of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”, Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Pop”, and Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs”.

Following the covers, Dave Grohl complained to the crowd that he never gets to do his own guitar solo. “You know who never gets a f*ckin’ solo? Me, god damn it, I never get a f*cking solo! So, since this is the last night of the trip, I’m gonna do a f*cking solo. How about that? You may think, ‘That guy can’t play a f*cking solo.’ You wanna see me do a guitar solo right now?”

Grohl then appeared to launch into the tap-solo from Van Halen’s “Eruption”. However, the solo continued even after Grohl raised his hands, revealing that Wolfgang Van Halen was playing the part backstage.

Grohl said, “Dude, I told you to keep that cool, Wolfie! What the f*ck are you doing right now? Everybody, give it up for Wolfgang Van Halen.” Wolfgang then performed a snippet of Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher” before being chased off stage by Grohl.

Foo Fighters then dedicated their performance of “My Hero” to Wolfgang’s late father and legendary musician, Eddie Van Halen.
