The New Pornographers make their grand return to your city TONIGHT! They’re playing the Winspear and bringing Born Ruffians with them! Get tickets HERE and enjoy these 5 fun facts!

1. Named after a Japanese film. Most people assumed the band’s name came from Jimmy Swaggart’s claim that rock and roll was the “new pornography”, but they actually got the name from a Japanese film called The Pornographers.

2. Critically acclaimed. Each of the band’s seven albums have received critical applause. Blender Magazine named the band’s 2000 album Mass Romantics the 24th best indie album of all time. In 2009, Rolling Stone listed the band’s second studio album, Electric Version, No. 79 in the “100 Best Albums of the Decade”.

3. Homies with Nardwaur. Bassist John Collins is also a member of The Evaporators aka Nardwaur the Human Serviette‘s band. Here they are back in the day.

4. They’re a Rock Band! “Electric Version” was included on the 2007 release of Rock Band. They were one of just TWO Canadian bands featured – the other was Rush. Obviously. Watch someone else play it below!

5. Raffi does not approve. Earlier this year, Raffi took to Twitter to voice his disapproval of the band’s name. Forget who Raffi is? Yeah, he’s this guy. Frontman Carl Newman responded in the most incredible way:

If the show is even half as great as those Tweets, you’re in for a real good night. Get tickets HERE!
